What is INDY NXT by Firestone?

INDY NXT by Firestone serves as the official development series for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. Formerly known as Indy Lights, it is designed to prepare the next generation of talent for success at the top level of the sport.

Drivers in INDY NXT race on many of the same tracks as the NTT INDYCAR SERIES during the same event weekends. The cars are similar in style and performance, giving young drivers experience with the demands of open-wheel racing at a high level. Many of today’s INDYCAR stars got their start in INDY NXT, making it a key step on the path to a professional racing career.

In 2025, at least 16 full-time drivers on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES grid have INDY NXT by Firestone listed on their resumes, including three of four series champions. Twenty of the 33 drivers with INDY NXT experience competed in the 109th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge.
